Big News

OCFD MAX™

This is a truly high performance OCFD antenna. It features my new matching unit designed especially for use in OCFD antennas.

Covers most HF bands 80 - 6 meters (exceptions, 30m, 60m, and 15 meters. However a special kit is available for 15 coverage.

6 meter coverage is possible because I've developed a special matching unit for the OCFD MAX™. It is very efficient and it provides a very high level of feedline isolation. It will also handle 1500 watts on SSB or CW. The 6 meter power limit is 500 watts.

Another special feature of the RADIO WORKS'™ OCFD MAX™ is the coverage of 15 meters. A separate element for 15 meters means that you can expect high performance and a low SWR on that band. You don't force feed this antenna on 15 meters which mean minimal loss on all covered bands.

The OCFD MAX™ is available with the 15 meter element kit factory installed. The kit is also available for user installation at a later date if you want to save some money on the initial purchase of the OCFD MAX™.

There are now five models of the CAROLINA WINDOM® Compact™ are now available.

Attic Versions are now available in the form of the CAROLINA WINDOM® 40 AV Compact.

More good news is the introduction of the CAROLINA WINDOM® Compact™ 160. This new version of the CAROLINA WINDOM® provides the same performance and band coverage . . . but, it is only half the length. That's right - HALF-SIZE. Now you can have a high performance antenna that covers 160-6 meters and requires only 134' between supports. This is the newest version.

The most popular version is the CAROLINA WINDOM® Compact 80. It covers 80 - 6 meters, and you only need 69 feet of space between supports. A 40 - 6 meter version is only 34 feet long. If you don't have the room for a full-size, high performance, CAROLINA WINDOM®, and you still want a high performance antenna that covers all the bands, look no further than the CAROLINA WINDOM® Compact™.

Keep an eye on the "Bulletin Board" for all the latest news.

On-line Catalog

Here is a quick update. I am following the current trend to move away from printed catalogs and instead make our catalog available on the web for instant viewing or downloading. There will also be a CD version available, but I'm going to concentrate on our web presence. Printed catalogs are becoming expensive to produce and postage is in a never-ending upward spiral. Worst of all is the fact that most of the information in a printed catalog is out of date by the time it leaves the printer. Using on-line and CD distribution, we can provide a much more elaborate catalog and employ quality colored graphics and high resolution photographs.

New Projects

There is a lot of new things going on at the RADIO WORKS™. It's my goal to have everything you need to take advantage of Sunspot cycle #24 without having to spend a fortune on a tower, rotator and beam. Why spend $5000 (and sometimes much, much more) to put up a tower and beam when the RADIO WORKS™ can give you antenna performance that is nearly as good for less than a couple of hundred dollars. Of course, a top-quality beam, high in the air, is generally going to be top-dog on the bands but, it's not necessarily so.

If you want to be effective playing the DX game, we have the answer for you the CAROLINA WINDOM®, SuperLoop™, BigSig Loop™ and other high performance antennas. Now, I'm going to concentrate on doing the same thing in shorter lengths or improved designs and implantations. Check out what's new.

CAROLINA WINDOM®

Speaking of the CAROLINA WINDOM®, the name is now a registered Trademark and is not a generic name. It is specific to the design and cannot be used without permission. This note means nothing to nearly all of you, but for those who insist on using the name, the rules have changed. If you see a CAROLINA WINDOM® being offered by anyone except the RADIO WORKS™, let me know. It's a knock-off and probably a rip-off.

As always, I want to thank all of your who have called or written with comments and kind words about what we are doing here at the RADIO WORKS™. It's folks like you that make the RADIO WORKS™ what it has become and what it is today. We couldn't do it without you.

For now, 73, have fun, and stay tuned,

Jim, W4THU
