Important new from Jim, W4THU

It is obvious that copper prices are heading upward at an unprecedented rate. Part of the reason is that China is purchasing huge quantities of copper, gold, and silver. Plastic is going up in price quickly, also. This is related the the record high prices in petroleum products. This might be a good time to stock up on things you might need your next antenna project(s).

Jim, W4THU

News! November 2007. - I just spoke with one of our copper wire suppliers, a large mill, and the price of copper is now up $1 per pound from where it was just a few months ago. After a short period of relatively level prices, there is an upward surge. Expect much higher prices on all copper, and petroleum based materials. That's just about everything we make, unfortunately. As an example, a ferrite part that we use which cost us under a dollar a few years ago, is now priced at just under four dollars. And, this is the price when we purchase thousands at a time. Of course, we could use smaller ferrite cores, toroids, etc. and same a few dollars, but that's just isn't going to happen as long as the RADIO WORKS puts its name on its products. So, we're still building the best antennas, balun, Line Isolators (tm), and accessories and we'll both just have to bare some of the price increases. To compromise quality is out of the question. I hope you agree.

Black Dacron Rope

We now have an even better 3/16" single-braid Dacron line. The supplier that we have used for years is now making Mil Spec rope in sizes that are perfect for our needs. I'm happy to report that we now have 3/8" single-braid Mil Spec rope that is perfect for holding pulleys in trees. Our 3/16" Mil Spec or double-braided Dacron line runs through the pulley to hold the antenna in the air. This is a perfect setup. The heavy 3/8" line does not move across the limbs in the tree and doesn't abraid like smaller ropes. Also, it doesn't seem to be as attractive to squirrels as a tooth sharpening tool. This all means that your tree-supported, wire antenna will stay up longer and be able to endure storms more reliably.
We also have 1/8" Kevlar (tm) line with a Dacron outer jacket. This is in addition to the .075" Kevlar line we've been selling for years. These two lines are perfect for guying the booms on beams, vertical antennas, lightweight masts, etc. It is not suitable for guying towers! It is not heavy enough for that.
